if you were watching food network at 8:00 last night, you saw lindsey and i make our television debut! we were involved with the show 'food court wars' that filmed in hickory early december. it's been SO hard to keep this a secret until the show aired, but now that it has, we can share all the details behind the scenes!!!
back in november, my long-time friend jason edwards, currently the assistant director for the syfy show 'face off,' contacted me about a design opportunity on the food network. i immediately looked into it, i mean, who wouldn't jump at the chance to be on an internationally televised show with tyler florence!? after a phone conversation with the executive producer, we got to work. we had two weeks to put everything together, get approval from the network and assemble supplies before filming began.
this episode featured two charlotte-based food trucks, wingzza and mayobird. we put together design concepts based on the contestant's inspiration boards. take a look...
we had two nights to transform two food court restaurant spaces, making sure we hid everything from the contestants during the day so nothing would be given away before the reveal on wednesday morning. we enlisted the help of garrett and wes mauldin of mauldin construction to pull this off. it was a lot of work, and SO worth it! we had a blast working with these guys and thankfully, they were up for any idea we threw at them. a few shots during the process...
the wingzza space 'before'
and the wingzza space 'after'
we had to utilize a 'temp' space, so we were limited in what we were allowed to change. this was the mayobird space 'before'
and the mayobird space 'after'
mark quickly recorded the reveal part of the show last night, so we could share that with you. we couldn't be more pleased with their reactions, so awesome! we keep watching it over and over! take a look...
thanks to food network for this amazing opportunity, we enjoyed every minute, and getting to hang out with tyler florence wasn't so bad either :) congrats to both wingzza and mayobird, you both did a fabulous job. hearing your background stories on the show last night was truly inspiring and we wish you the very best!
the episode airs again this saturday, march 22nd at 4:00, so be sure to check it out! we'll post reminders on our facebook page too. design swell. live well.
