a couple of months ago I got a call from an old client, Kelli Lee, with news that the family was moving to Atlanta for husband Mike's job- with desperation in her voice, she asked if I would be willing to help her with the new house since they needed a lot and she was getting very overwhelmed. with no hesitation, i was game for the challenge. i quickly planned a mini-trip with hubby for the weekend jaunt down to Alpharetta, so i could see the house, take pictures and measure.
with move in day a couple of weeks away, Kelli wanted to have a solid plan in place before leaving Charlotte. i quickly put together design concepts for each room, and met with her in the office - after going over everything and making a few tweaks, we were all set..... with one last trip down to the house and meeting with Mike to get everything approved, i have finally settled Kelli's nerves.
the home is beautiful, and will be even better once all of my goodies arrive.
i hope to make it feel like the Lee's once install day is complete.
the overall look is traditional & classic, but we plan to make it feel more modern with splashy fabrics and art. phase 1 consists of the downstairs- foyer, dining room, living room and keeping room off of the kitchen.
take a look at the design concepts i presented to the family-
the previous homeowners liked the old world european look, so there are a lot of bronze fixtures throughout the home- since Kelli is not a big fan of that look, i suggested we bring in some gold to lighten the spaces up. in the foyer, we are reupholstering a bench seat and switching out the wall sconces- a foyer table that has a dark top & gold leaf base will tie in the black stair spindles with the new gold fixtures. in the dining room, we are replacing the current chandelier with this dainty gold & beaded fixture.. the Lee's current buffet and hutch look like doll furniture in this large space, so i am suggesting a new buffet cabinet made custom to fit the long wall with a
large art piece above and lamps to complete the look.
in the living room, we are keeping the palette pretty neutral and using fabrics to bring in color- Kelli prefers to keep the windows & the view open, we may come back in later with window treatments. i plan to keep the conversation area intimate, with a custom 96" sofa, a pair of chairs and a bench in front of the fireplace, this space will be formal and perfect for entertaining a large group.
the keeping room is right off of the living room, in here, we are keeping their current furniture and spicing up the sofa and chairs with new pillows. i want to add a sofa table with lamps to brighten up this area and a natural braided jute rug to define the space. we plan to incorporate this buffet cabinet in the eating area and the mirrors above will bounce light around the entire space.
i am still patiently waiting for everything to come in, with custom pieces being made it takes a little more time. check back to see the end result of phase 1 -
