i've enjoyed working with my new clients, the khans, on their new home currently under construction in the ballantyne area of charlotte. when saima came to me, most of the permanent features had been selected already; lighting, cabinet colors, plumbing fixtures, etc. what started out as help with paint colors, quickly turned into a full-blown design plan for the entire first floor!

and now, the design boards...
the khans wanted the formal living room and dining room to truly be formal, but not look like grandma's house. i gave them a mixture of traditional elements with youthful art, fabrics and accessories. they have large family gatherings on a regular basis, so this dining room is going to get lots of use. with an 80" diameter table, there is plenty of room for ten-plus guests.
maintaining the muted palette, the living room reflects the sophistication of the dining room. the hit of kelly green livens up the space.
the khans love the arabesque pattern and wanted to incorporate it into the design elements. saima fell in love with the pale aqua fabric, so i built the concept around it.
knowing the family will spend most of their time in the keeping room, we had to maximize seating. a large comfy sectional was the solution, and a pair of side chairs completes the arrangement while allowing good flow through the space.
saima has hinted that the side porch is the next area up for some design help, and i'm more than ready to tackle it! construction is scheduled for completion this month.
stay tuned for install pics!
design swell. live well.
