i love when past clients refer us to friends, as is the case with my new clients the cuykendalls. thank you for the referral danielle! bari cuykendall called me needing help with her formal living room, as well as the casual sitting area in her kitchen.
she had recently purchased a settee for the sitting area, but needed to finish off the space, and was at a loss on how to do that. she and her husband wanted more seating, but couldn't decide if they wanted one or two chairs. this area is near the entrance to the kitchen, so maintaining a path of travel was important. i suggested an area rug to define the space and opted for one more chair. take a look at the design.
the formal living room was a blank slate, with the exception of two new chesterfield sofas and an adorable picture of their two sons. the red wagon from the picture was the inspiration for the entire palette.
i always try and throw in something unexpected; in this case, it's the orange mirror. a glossy lacquered finish on a decorative mirror is a modern twist on a traditional element. the existing console is a family heirloom and is getting new life with a coat of lacquer.
although we loved the inspiration mirror on the design board, the size wasn't perfect. i scored this amazing mirror at one of my favorite local sources. it's beautiful in gold, but is going to look amazing after my guy gets his hands on it.
stay tuned for install pics, i can't wait to share how these rooms turn out!
design is a way of life.
