i'm so excited to share these spaces with you! the installation of phase 2 for the natwick's home is complete! you've seen the kids' lounge, so now let's take a look at the foyer makeover, dining room update and living room overhaul!
first, the issues...the foyer was lacking proper storage, and the mess was driving my client, holly, crazy. the first floor walls were too dark and needed to be lightened up, and the dining room was lacking a 'finished' look.
see how the spaces looked when we started...
after several paint options, we settled on 'linen' from restoration hardware; the entire first floor got a paint job. the powder room was painted a more dramatic color,
sherwin williams 'gauntlet gray'.
before we get to the install pics, let's look at the design boards.
to banish clutter, we used an entry cabinet with plenty of hooks; no more backpacks on the floor! a wall mounted organizer keeps each child's assignments neat and tidy. a new orange runner brightens up the floor and mimics the trim used in the adjacent dining room.
i've done striped panels before, and couldn't wait to do them again. this time around, i used a two-color combination and opted for a trim to add the pop. the room needed storage, and that was achieved by using two custom cabinets by our carpenter wes. i LOVE how they turned out.
my favorite thing in the room is the framed wallpaper panel. the bird motif keeps the room whimsical and ties the colors of the entire first floor together.
take a look at the transformation...
and now for the living room. the furniture layout was an issue, the sofa blocked the flow from the kitchen into the space. the solution, relocate the sofa in front of the window and move the television to the garage wall across from the window. adding a pair of chairs where the sofa was really opens up the room. my client had an existing chair in her bedroom that we reupholstered and moved to the living room, the scale is perfect.
as for my design plan for the space; high contrast with pops of orange.
the existing built-ins were screaming for some attention. my solution, a graphic wallpaper! i love this trick, it works every time.
and now, the transformation...
i think the refurbished chair is my favorite thing in the room.
what a difference new fabric makes!
phase 3 is underway, so stay tuned for the install of the natwick's home office, master bedroom, kitchen and powder room. design swell. live well.
