my client started out as a burrus, but she's now married so i'm trying to switch over to her new name of rogers. it's funny how lindsey and i refer to our clients by their last names, so when a name changes, it takes a little getting use to! this blog post is all about the kitchen overhaul we recently completed. you can read the original post here.
this kitchen wasn't stuck in a time warp, it was just old! everything had to go, down to the tile floors. a new layout was definitely in order, among all the other things that kitchen renovations need; cabinets, countertops, tile, paint, fabric, furniture...
my clients are young and prefer a more traditional decor, so i chose this fabric as my jumping off point. knowing they wanted a light, bright, and mainly white kitchen, this was just what the design needed to inject some color.
building off this fabric, i chose to focus on the purple, its complement yellow, and green. you'll see in the pics how these colors are sprinkled around the kitchen and dining area.
i think it's always smart to use a good amount of soft elements to balance out all the hard surfaces inevitable in a kitchen. adding a rug, using upholstered counter stools at the island, and adding upholstered cornices and host chairs in the eating area, all combine to soften the overall effect of the space.
take a look at where we started...
and where we ended up...
this kitchen is now current, and more importantly functional, for these newlyweds. i hope they enjoy entertaining family and friends for many years to come.
we're working on the adjacent living room now, so stay tuned for that dramatic transformation. design swell. live well.
