ah, sarah richardson. the mere mention of her name is inspiring to me. she has long been my favorite designer on HGTV and if you've ever seen one of her many tv shows, you would understand why. the woman has serious design skills, and along with her sidekick tommy smythe, the pair are as entertaining as they are talented. i swear, if she wasn't located in canada, i would have tried to get a job working for her!
richardson and i share more than blue eyes and brown hair, we have a very similar design aesthetic and approach. the use of vintage furniture, knowing where to save and where to splurge, and the knowledge that even ikea has an appropriate place in design, are all things we have in common. maybe that's why i'm drawn to her work. whatever the reason, i simply adore her. she doesn't take herself too seriously, she does things once and she does them right, and she has fun during the whole design process.
richardson is a super busy mom of two, runs her toronto design firm, finds time to record tv shows, and has launched a fabric line with kravet that is due out this fall. you can get a little sneak peek here thanks to lonny magazine. she also has a NEW show on HGTV Canada that i hope will air in the US in the near future, check out real potential.
you can watch her other shows on HGTV and online at HGTV.com. check out room service, design inc., sarah's house seasons 1-4 and sarah 101 seasons 1-2. i wanted to share a few of my favorite sarah projects from her extensive portfolio..
the day after the sarah 101 show for this last project, 'natural nursery' aired, i happened to be online and stumbled upon this... do you recognize the nursery in that blog post? yes, that is the nursery i designed for my friend christina and it was actually used as inspiration for the project! could this mean that sarah richardson saw one of my projects?! until next time, design swell. live well.
