lindsey hayes was born and raised in Wilmington, NC. as a young girl, she grew up dancing competively, a ballerina at the age of 9 years old. she attended The North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston- Salem for a 2 month summer intensive study at the age of 12. a ballet prodigy, her former instructor would call her. she traveled and competed both locally and nationally until the age of 19.
it was then that she graduated high school and decided to move away for college that she stopped dancing altogether. she came to Charlotte in 2004 to attend The Art Institute for interior design. she began in the associates degree program for residential design, but later decided to further her knowledge and switched over into the baccalaureate program to learn more about the commercial aspects of design as well. she finished her bachelor's degree in 3 years. while in school, she studied abroad and took a 3 month tour of Europe through Schiller International University. she describes this as, 'the most incredible experience a young person can take in, everyone should explore Europe at some point in their life' ... she also completed an internship through Vision Builders Architect and Design Firm, this is where her love for fabric, color & space planning began.
fresh out of college in 2007, she started her career in the countertop fabrication business working for Cambria USA. as the design center manager, she was able to work with contractors and clients to design quartz countertops that fit each customer's needs. when the economy took it's downfall, she was laid off.
after searching continuously for work in her field, a college friend, Ashley Goodwin, referred her to lucy and company for a position as a designer. in 2009, she interviewed, and the same day, was offered the position. here, she could be more creative and work directly with clients. lindsey loves a challenge and no job is too big or too small for her. she strives for perfection and will get the job done no matter what comes her way.
lindsey finds inspiration in fabrics and will peruse the local showroom until something jumps out at her for a specific client, 'that is where an entire job can stem from.'
when approached by Ashley Delapp to become business partners, lindsey didn't think twice about it. she was all in from day one, it was her hubby that the duo had to convince that success was in the making. having just gotten married, taking on a new business venture as a couple was a scary step and lindsey had to think about that very seriously. looking back, lindsey says 'its the best decision she's ever made.... besides marrying Zach Hayes!'
lindsey comes from a family of business owners, so ownership is definitely in her blood. her father is in the towing business, her mother owned the dance studio she attended and her grandfather and aunt were in the auto bodyshop business in Wilmington, NC.
she is most proud of the hard work ethic that her father instilled in her, and her sense of style & taste that she got from her mother. she comes up for air every now and then but can most times be found working at full speed. if she has an idea or a plan, she finds a way to make it happen. she loves people and enjoys every aspect of her job.
lindsey and zach plan to have children in the future, and she admits, 'i will have to find a way to balance both raising a family and growing a business.' she doesn't want to slow down anytime soon, she says evaru's success this far is due to pure dedication, passion and amazing clients.
