half of the duo that make up evaru, ashley walker delapp has an extensive background in architecture and interior design. originally from Rutherfordton, North Carolina, she came to Charlotte in the summer of 1994 to attend the College of Architecture at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
her career started while in school, working for Robert Johnson Architects. this is where her love for space planning and interior design began. after graduating with a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1999, her career flourished as a senior associate with WGM Design. she spent over ten years with the firm, ultimately managing the interior architecture studio for WGM's commercial projects.
ashley's goal was always to have her own business one day, and in 2005 she co-created a side business, From Stork to Finish, with friend Becky Huss. their company focused on interior design for nurseries and children's spaces. after several years, and many projects, the team took a break to start their families.
fast forward to 2009, with her two sons through the infant stage, ashley was ready to start again, but this time focusing on all aspects of residential interior design. she founded evaru, set up a website, and started taking new clients. when asked about the name of the company, ashley says...
ashley defines her style as bold, but classic; freely mixing striking patterns and colors. she loves pairing new pieces with vintage finds, and is an expert at refurbishing!
her design idol is toronto's sarah richardson, they have very similar aesthetics.
after a couple of years establishing evaru on a part-time basis, ashley decided to look for a full time designer position. she interviewed at charlotte-based 'lucy and company' and was hired on the spot. however, it wasn't long before evaru clients started calling on her again and her previous employer WGM was calling with contract work. realizing she was capable of taking evaru full time, she made the hard decision to leave L&C.
while at L&C, ashley met lindsey hayes and the two hit it off immediately! like ashley, lindsey wanted her own business, so the two decided to partner up and open a design firm in charlotte. because evaru was established, they decided to continue with the branding already in place. they found an office location on providence road in charlotte's myers park/eastover neighborhood, signed the lease, and the rest is history. evaru has blossomed with the pair at the helm. in less than one year, they've tackled their first international project, doubled the size of their office, and racked up over sixty happy clients.
the future looks bright, and ashley has no intention of slowing down anytime soon. she's a mom first, but evaru is like a third child. it has taken patience, work and persistence, and she wouldn't change a thing. when she's not designing, blogging or taking photos of evaru installs, she enjoys time with her two sons. you may also find her honing her photography skills for clients, when time allows. she's a novice photographer, but really enjoys the extra creative outlet. her work can be viewed at
