it's that time friends, reveal day for the guest participants of the one room challenge with linda of blog calling it home! those six weeks flew by, but the work to transform the former master bathroom in our 1960s home into the kids' bath was well worth it! this time around, i was blessed to finish early and have my friend and talented photographer erica mark shoot the room for me. before we get to the good stuff, take a look back at the progress along the way...
the room went from blah to beautiful, and i am so happy to share the final space with you! i ended up leaving the shower tile as-is, and with the newness of everything else, i actually don't mind it now (kinda). take a look at my design board for the room, and where we started...
i am so in love with this bathroom! it's cheery, fun and perfect for my two boys. i love that i was able to reuse my vintage mirror and it look appropriate in the space, and since i stole sutton's dresser for this project (= temporarily messy room) i now am on the hunt for a new piece for his bedroom! i'm sure it will be vintage of course ;)
take a look at some fun detail shots...
i sincerely hope you've enjoyed this transformation as much as i have! it feels good to almost have the entire house completed. one more thing off my list! check out the other guest participants at calling it home to see their reveals too. i'm going to spend a good bit of time this week/weekend catching up! a complete source list is below.
a huge thank you to craig waltonowski, ashley mullis, and erica mark for all their help along the way, and to linda of calling it home for hosting this amazing event! this is my fourth ORC and i can't wait to do it again in october! and a special thank you to my youngest schafer, for helping with the finishing touches. i love you sweet pea!
design swell. live well.
welcome to week five of the ORC with linda of blog calling it home! while things are progressing, i'm getting nervous with the deadline looming! the wallpaper is going up tomorrow, and after a few accessories, it will be time for pictures! i can't wait!
things to report this week...
the art did arrive, but it was damaged, these things happen. i love the art piece though, so cute! crossing my fingers the replacement will be here before next week!!!!
on the bright side, there are some amazing projects going on at calling it home, head over and check them out! i promise to instagram a shot of the wallpaper asap! design swell. live well.
i can't believe it's already thursday again, and time for another update on the one room challenge with linda of blog calling it home! i honestly panicked this morning, thinking it was week 5, but thankfully that wasn't the case. the wallpaper still has to go up!
this past week, the new toilet was installed, the open shelving was concealed and the vanity was brought in. i was SO pleased with the look and fit of it, it was like it was meant for that bathroom!
take a look...
and now it's all coming together! i can't wait for the wallpaper to go up, but first the mirror, junction box for the sconce and electrical outlet have to be moved around. i'll be spending the weekend working on the drawer fronts, that's a little fun detail i'm working on, and getting the art ordered and framed.
as always, head over to calling it home to check out the other linking participants! it's crunch time and we can all use the encouragement!

it's week three of the 'one room challenge' with linda of blog calling it home, and i'm happy to report that things are happening at my house! this is so exciting!!!
if you follow me on instagram, you saw my many deliveries that arrived this week. the toilet, sink, faucet, sconce and hooks are here! the vanity was taken yesterday for a new paint job. i decided to use benjamin moore's 'gunmetal'.
here's a progress shot. it was a nice surprise to see the existing flooring went under the vanity. no patching floor tile for me! i know the toilet was installed today, so i'll get to see that when i get home. very exciting friends!
take a look at the other linking participants and see how their projects are coming along. i can't wait to check in! design swell. live well.
it's week two of the one room challenge with linda of blog 'calling it home' and i'm pretty excited to share the design for the kids' bathroom. it's full of fun details, some vintage goodies, and my boys are even excited! take a look...
we have a vintage camper that we've yet to renovate, i was thinking of saving that for another one room challenge ;) so i fell for these cute camper prints from etsy. not sure which one(s) i'll use at this point, but they were great inspiration!
to date, i've ordered the sink, faucet, hooks and sconce. this week i plan to order the wallpaper (still need to measure for that) figure out the art, and send the vanity to be lacquered. wish me luck!
make sure to check out the other linking participants at calling it home today, and for the next four thursdays, there are tons of great projects to see!

hey everyone! i was waffling whether or not to participate in the one room challenge this season with blog Calling It Home. i mean, it's not like i have nothing else to do right now ;) my partner is on maternity leave and work is crazy slammed, but in the end, i decided i needed the push to do something about my horrible upstairs bathroom.
this is technically the master bathroom in our 1960's home, but with the previous one room challenges i've participated in, this has now become the boys' bathroom. here is the MLS photo from when we bought the house, and little has changed. the only thing i've replaced is the mirror. and bless my dad's heart, he dropped his drill while trying to install a new sconce and broke the corner off our vanity (we decided to wait on the sconce). it's just a hot mess!
all the issues i have with this bathroom... i really don't like the style of the shower tile, so i'm debating on how to address this. will i replace or reglaze for the time being?
the other eye sore is this open shelving situation we have going on. i can't wait to have doors to cover them up. i do love my faux bamboo mirror. it might come back, or i might find a new home for it in the house.
for the vanity, i'm thinking of using a mid century dresser. if you remember, i did that in my very first one room challenge and i love how it turned out. next week i'll share my design for the space. i know there will be wallpaper and i have some fun tricks up my sleeve, so make sure and follow along to see the progress unfold.

it's week six, which means it's REVEAL day for the ORC with Linda of blog Calling It Home. i will report, i did receive my benches, but there wasn't time to reupholster them. you'll just have to imagine them in a bold color! i can't wait to show you the transformation of my master closet / dressing room, but if you're new to the blog you can catch up below. let's get started!!!
i always like to go back and see the room before anything happened to it. the blank slate, so full of possibilities, and in this case totally blah!
i am happy to report the room has gone from ugh to awesome! full of color, pattern and functionality; i couldn't be happier! take a look...
thank you so much to those who have followed along; i hope you like the end result! i'll be posting a reference guide tomorrow, so check back in if you saw something you'd like for yourself! make sure to check out the other 176 guest participants at Calling It Home. i'm looking forward to spending the weekend catching up on everyone's projects. until next time, design swell. live well.
it's that time again, a little update on my master closet One Room Challenge with Linda of blog Calling It Home. i can't believe there's only one week until the reveal!
things have been moving along, the roman shades are up, the light is installed and i'm adding the final touches this week. still waiting on my benches to arrive, they have shipped, but i won't have time to reupholster them before the reveal. i'll try and come up with some way to show my intention for them ;)
without giving too much away, here are a couple sneak peeks before the big reveal next thursday!!!
i have some touch up painting to do on the ceiling around the new light fixture, but overall, i'm not too stressed about finishing up. super excited to share the final room next week! design swell. live well.
this week has been a little crazy to say the least. my step-daughter had her baby boy on friday, the boys and i went to a birthday party for my 2-year-old cousin on saturday, mark helped me put ezra's nursery together on sunday, and i traveled to blacksburg, virgnia for an install on monday. whew, that's a lot to cram into a few short days!
i'm still chugging along with my master closet project, participating in the one room challenge with linda of blog Calling It Home. if you're new to the blog, the ORC is a 6-week challenge where you transform a room in your home, blogging about your progress every week and revealing your space on the last thursday. we are in week 4, to catch up, take a look at the first three weeks below.
this past week, the remaining closet components were installed, and my grasscloth has started going up! here's a little sneak peek of the gorgeous color, i'm completely smitten!
my next decision is figuring out the light fixture. i saw this beauty at market last week, unfortunately, it's not in stock yet...
here are the options i'm choosing from. any thoughts?
for this next week, i'm planning to get my roman shades installed. they look amazing! i'm also planning to get the rest of my clothes purged and hanging up! i'm still waiting on my benches to arrive. i'm crossing my fingers i can get those in time! head over to calling it home to see the other linking participants, there's lots of great talent out there! design swell. live well.
hi everyone! it's time for a progress report on week 3 of the ORC with Linda of blog Calling It Home. this week was kinda quiet around here. market started in high point on saturday and as usual, we made the trek for our two-day visit; soaking up all the new goodies from our favorite vendors. there is exciting news, my closet system arrived and the install began!
talk about the biggest UPS delivery i've ever received...
from a stack of boxes, to this...
it's so exciting to see the progress! once everything is in place, all the decorative details can begin. can't wait for the grasscloth to go up. hoping that will be next week! keeping my fingers crossed!!!
head over to Calling It Home and see what the other participants are up to!
